Talamone, the sea and the Fortress
Talamone is a charming village in Maremma, is located on the southern edge of the mountain range dell’Uccellina. Characterized by its ancient fortress of the Aldobrandeschi family, this small town overlooking the beautiful Silver Coast and reflects the clear blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Legend says that the name of Telamon comes straight from ‘hero greek Telamon, son of Aeacus and Endeïs, brother of the father of Achilles, Peleus. Says that Telamon has landed here on the way back from Calabria and is buried just below the fortress.
Today Talamone preserved its traditional fishing village fortified. The harbor is dominated by the Rocca Aldobrandesca of the 13th century. The fort was abandoned and destroyed several times over the centuries. In the late 16th century, the Sienese rebuilt as we see it today. It stands out clearly on top of the rocky hill above the village.
The center retains its original appearance and is characterized by narrow streets and stone houses.
Talamone is certainly a jewel of the Maremma. In recent years it has become a popular beach destination in Tuscany. Its pebble beaches and its cliffs are surrounded by pine forests and characterized by crystal clear water of a deep blue color. The bay of Telamon is also famous for sailing sports. And ‘the ideal place for windsurfing, kite-surfing and sailing.
And for fish lovers is celebrated in August a delicious feast of octopus along the harbor.
The hinterland is characterized by typical Mediterranean vegetation of this area. Talamone is located on the border with the beautiful Maremma Natural Park and is part of the Park of Maremma. So even in Talamone find the entrance to the nature trails of the park.
